L’ATELIER

L’Atelier (french for workshop) is Mother Road Studios’ all-inclusive fashion program. We reuse, repurpose, and restyle clothing and materials to create unique clothing designs. The designs are then showcased by models of all abilities, on a runway of creativity, acceptance and empathy.

Throughout this process, our participants gain real-world, hands-on experiences, learning many different facets of fashion including history, design, modeling, cultural influences, styles and trends, while coming together to plan, create and design a fashion show!

Participants will:

  • Explore ways to design adaptive clothing for people with different abilities, including those with physical challenges and sensory issues.

  • Collaborate with industry mentors

  • Learn the value of recycling clothing and materials

  • Gain acceptance and appreciation for each others’ challenges and talents

  • Developing 21st century skills such as: Creativity, Collaboration, Communication, Critical Thinking, Flexibility

Everyone’s contributions are valued and appreciated, regardless of their challenges. Tasks and responsibilities will be tailored to ensure that all participants are able to fully contribute to the best of their ability. Modifications will be made based on individuals needs’ and interests. Providing a creative, collaborative platform with inclusive opportunities for people from different backgrounds builds compassion, empathy, patience, tolerance, acceptance, understanding and a sense of belonging for everyone involved.
